I have been working on this project for about 10 years now. I dont think I have gotten too far with it. For the last 8 years there has been no real progress so I have deicided to let her go. I had high hopes for her but can no longer afford to keep her. Maybe you can try. First off she a 1974 model. I know not the best years for production. Shes white with a yellow top and has a pretty decent body. She just needs a touch of body work. She never seems to break down although she does piss and moan alot on long drives. On short drives she does OK though. She doesnt like to work too hard so I would not suggest any heavy loads. She must burn alot of rubber because she always seems to come home with new shoes. Overall shes pretty decent but my financial status can no longer cover the maintenance needed. If you think you can give her a good home let me know. I just hope you get a laugh out of this and start your day happily.

Gear, you didn't mention how many miles are on her. And, what kind of condition is the undercarriage in? Any corrosion?

Well I dont think the undercarriage is to bad. I am not sure how many miles are on her. She says 30 but I think its more than that. I think the odometer may have rolled a time or two. Kinda funny how you can compare cars and women so much though isnt it. I think I still prefer cars though. It sucks when they stiff you but not as bad as a woman going off.

Gearhead, I have a few more questions. Are there any rusty holes on the body? Do the headlights still go up & down? Does her grill have any missing teeth? Have you given regular maintenance; fluids, grease chassis, etc.? Is the trunk solid or sagging? What is her 0-69 performance? A new model can appear more disireable, offering better performance and a shiny new body. But after a while, she will lose her new smell, her zippy performance will drop, her condition will start to deteriorate, and maintenance costs will skyrocket. By then, buyers remorse can set in and you may start to think that maybe your old model wasn't really in such bad shape!!

Ok thats alot of questions. I'll try to answer them all No rust holes that I can see although there are some spots that are perfectly straight, I think there might be a bit of filler in some spots.
Headlights are still in the up position, from what I have been told this model has a problem with them getting lower and lower the older they get.
Grill is one of the nicest parts but the sound coming from it can sometimes be horrible.
Trunk still looks great. prolly the best part of the whole thing.
I maintain the damn thing constantly. Its like a friggin ferrarri. You never get to drive it much but it still costs you thousands of dollars to keep it.
Almost never makes it to 69. Usually stays right around 0
I here ya on the last part but I think I'm going to look into leasing so I can just get a new one every couple years.
Man its amazing how much lingo interchanges between the two.

OH, and by the way, my Dad always told me not to loan my Car or my Wife to my best friend as he will throw a rod in both of them.

Does she smoke either when first starting up, or after her motor has been running for a while? Have either the drivers or passengers' side airbags been deployed before? Any short circuits in her wiring system? Have any parts of her body been frenched? And most importantly, will she come with a free and clear title?

WHEW! Reading all this advertising could make a guy hungry AND thirsty!
I've got a 70' Model that's sometimes smooth and purrs like a kitten, but then all of a sudden jumps out of gear and raises all kinds of crap. I've found it's just easier sometimes to keep her in the garage, and polish her up when it rains. Save's alot of gas, and I don't get a lot of rumbles coming out of her.
By the way..........anyone know how to increase the gas mileage without wearing out the cyclinder walls too badly?

I have found that a regular application of a high quality, deep penetrating lube can help preserve the performance of those cylinder walls!

I've got one that I just hate sometimes but at least it always starts when I need it to and it does get the job done. Performance isn't bad, can get to 69 plenty quick but I find myself working on it constantly, it's really not that old as she is a 79 model but I always seem to find myself either leaning over the hood, working hard underneath or even pushing it home from behind. Trunk's got plenty of space, some don't like the fat fendered look but I don't mind because it takes quite a bit of room to cram my stuff into. One thing I have to watch is what fuel I use as the exhaust can sometimes smell a little rich. She will haul a load I have found out because in the past four years she's hauled home two go-carts. All in all I am happy with my purchase and really would'nt want to sell her, and I really don't want to think about shopping again as I'm in no shape to do so.
But I am in the market for a good muffler, anybody got any ideas?

I have been working on mine for the last 15 yrs. I have finally got her cylinders honed. The grille is still great butt rearend has the fat fendered look. She is a 72 model. I did have her Midasized. Headlights have started to sag a lil. The body has been frenched and been well massaged. Top has been chopped a few inches.

I know EXACTLY what you mean Gear!! I have a '52 thats the same way! I've been looking to trade her in on a newer model myself. I was looking at a '77 and an'89! The '77 is a little bipolar. Fine one minute, bucking and carrying on the next. The '89 seems a lot better. The '89 will go 0-69 in a heartbeat. All body parts are original and has low miles, and a nice tight chassis. If it wouldn't cost so much to get rid of the '52, I'd be 'DRIVIN' the 89 home right now!!

I would love to take her off your hands but- my garage is all ready occupied with a low milage classic. To swap out this baby would almost sure break my heart and i am sure hers too. i know that cars feelings do not matter , but somewhere in my old noggin something is tellin me to keep this kitten and pay the price...:)

Gear my friend, as an older guy with a great deal of restoration experience, once they run out of gas, you can never fill the tank properly again. You're best off to just leave the keys in her, and park her somewhere close to an overhang so she doesn't get wet if it rains. Good luck and here is hoping you find another HOTROD to call your own someday!

This is too funny!! Im an '86 model and have one thing to say... keep your car tuned up, add some GOOD gas every once in a while make sure it squirts a little =), and you'd have a lot less stress havin her around. Keep up these posts, they're funnier than watching Family Guy! lol

You know that with the right tool, the correct stroke you might get her to hum again. Use a good oil for lubrication. And when your in her and drivin her try stroken the dash or the steering wheel and talk to her. Never hurts to open up the pipes and let em sing once in a while. Good luck.
